Your computer may need help springing ahead to daylight savings
Campus systems are in the process of being patched for the new Daylight Savings Time which will begin this year on March 11, 2007. These patches may also require additional updates to your computers. Kronos, for example, will require that you also update your Java (JRE) version to JRE 1.5.0_10.
The campus WiscCal/WiscCal Plus system has already been patched but please note the following (article also available at: http://www.doit.wisc.edu/news/story.asp?filename=790
The new DST dates will not cause problems for any new appointment/event created in WiscCal since October 22, 2006. This is the date that the WiscCal server was upgraded with new files to address the DST time zone change issues. Appointments set after October 22 in WiscCal do not have to be changed, regardless of when they fall in the calendar year.
However, any appointments/events created before October 22, 2007 that fall within the spring DST time change window between March 11 and April 1 or the fall DST time change window between October 28 and November 4 will have to be manually adjusted by the owner/scheduler. So, for example, if last July you scheduled an annual training workshop for March 15, 2007 from 2:00 4:00 p.m., it will display in your calendar as 3:00 5:00 p.m. unless you make this fix.
Any appointments set before last October 22 that fall in the window of either the spring or fall DST changes will need to be adjusted for this year and for subsequent years.
Please contact your local IT staff regarding necessary patches to your computers.
