Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) graduate fellowship applications due Feb. 5

Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships help graduate students acquire competencies in foreign language and either area or international studies. Applications are due February 5, 2007. Applications by students in professional fields are encouraged. Preference will be given to applicants with a high level of academic ability and with previous language training. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Academic Year Fellows must be admitted to or enrolled in graduate or professional programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Academic Year Fellows receiving these awards must take one language course and one related area or international studies course each semester. FLAS fellowships for intensive summer language study are available in all areas. A separate application is required for summer programs, and is available from the area studies offices. In some cases Summer FLAS fellowships may be used for study on other campuses.
