CALS horticulturists held a 9-day workshop on organic / sustainable vegetable production in Wisconsin last month (Aug 15-23). The whole workshop is done in Spanish and this year we had 15 participants including students, teachers, and leaders of women’s cooperatives from three Central American countries, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. We visited vegetable farms and markets all over Wisconsin in addition to Wollersheim Winery and Minhas Brewery. We also visited the Chicago Botanic Garden and urban gardens in downtown Chicago. The highlight was a hands-on workshop on vegetable seed processing and storage hosted by Professor Kent Bradford of the Univ. of California – Davis and Raul Guerra, graduate student in the Dept. of Horticulture.
