Please save the date for campus’ annual 2013 Fall Diversity Forum, titled “Diversity and Educational Achievement: A Statewide Agenda.” The event is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21, and Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Union South.
Topics will range broadly from the pre-college pipeline for under-represented students and their increased participation in STEM fields to the role of micro-aggressions, educational achievement, and hip-hop pedagogy in the academy. We also will be discussing the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case of Fisher v. University of Texas-Austin and its implications for higher education. Confirmed speakers include Columbia University Professor Derald Wing Sue, UCLA Professor Sylvia Hurtado, and Attorney Kate Lipper of EducationCounsel, LLC.
