Prize-winning Pixie Dust pleases campus palates
On July 7 in Babcock Hall, a team of food science students reprised the presentation that earned them first place last month in a national food product development contest sponsored by Disney. Samples of their product, a drink mix called Pixie Dust, made from dehydrated fruit, were available for tasting. Many in the adult audience didn’t go into the room with particularly high expectation, based on previous experience with powdered drink mixes targeted at the pre-teen demographic, but the general reaction was “surprisingly good!“ Mixed with milk, it was a lot like a fruit smoothie, noted one sampler.
