Peace Corps information for your students
International Peace Corps service may be just the opportunity some of your students are seeking, and we hope that you can help us raise awareness of the need for volunteers in your area of expertise.
Peace Corps has more positions available than ever for applicants skilled and educated in your field of study. College seniors and grad students who apply now could start service upon graduation next year.
We have several tailored communication tools available upon your request:
- Distribute an e-mail text to your students with program information and web links.
- Show your classes a short DVD, highlighting volunteers in the field, or visit www.youtube.com/peacecorps.
- Provide informational handouts, such as volunteer profiles, program descriptions and brochures.
Simply e-mail our public affairs specialist, Christine Torres, at ctorres2@peacecorps.gov, and ask for the format(s) you prefer. Please provide your name, department and mailing address in the e-mail.
Peace Corps is one of America’s top national service programs and provides the chance to help others while gaining valuable experience, in addition to other benefits like the option to combine service with graduate school for credit and/or financial assistance, full medical and dental coverage while in service, special eligibility for federal jobs, and an organized network of other returned volunteers for job and social connections.
By serving in Peace Corps, volunteers show the world a side of America that promotes service, cooperation and peace. Peace Corps is also a great way to launch a career. Volunteers return home as global citizens, with cross-cultural, leadership, language, teaching and community development skills that position them well for advanced education and professional opportunities. In addition, volunteers bring their enriching experience and spirit of community service back home when they return. See examples of these notable Peace Corps Volunteers.
Thank you for any help you can give in making this unique personal and professional development opportunity available to your students.
Sincerely,
Kathryn O’Connor (Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Nicaragua)
