Requests for Applications for higher education partnerships

Higher Education for Development (HED), in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is currently issuing several Requests for Applications for competitive awards to support higher education partnerships.

Experts from U.S. higher education institutions are encouraged to apply to work with their counterparts in developing countries on partnership programs in fields such as economic growth, telecommunications, health, agriculture, education, and journalism.

We encourage you to share this information with university colleagues whose departments have the skills, knowledge and abilities we’re seeking for institutional awards and who may have an interest in these programs.

Haiti: Creating Opportunities for Haitian Undergraduates in Finance and Accounting
Closing SOON! Applications due February 26, 2008, 5:00 p.m. ET
HED anticipates making one $552,000 award for a three-year higher education partnership to create opportunities for talented, disadvantaged undergraduates from the Université Quisqueya in Haiti to complete their degrees in finance and/or accounting in the United States.

Kosovo: Enhancing Telecommunications Education in Kosovo
Closing SOON! Applications due February 29, 2008, 5:00 p.m. ET
One award for $450,000 for a three-year higher education partnership to strengthen the University of Pristina’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in order to better prepare graduate students to meet workforce demands in the telecommunications area upon graduation.

Paraguay: Collaborative Training in Epidemiology and Public Health

Applications due March 26, 2008, 5:00 p.m. ET
HED anticipates making one award of up to $300,000 for a three-year partnership to strengthen the capacity of higher education in Paraguay to provide training in epidemiology and public health information.

Albania: Increasing Institutional Capacity in Agricultural Economics

Applications due April 11, 2008, 5:00 p.m. ET
One three-year award of up to $300,000 for a partnership with the Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) to strengthen faculty capacity to provide graduate education in agricultural economics and to provide consulting and training services to the Ministry of Agriculture, extension agencies, and producer associations in Albania.

We anticipate competitions for partnerships in early childhood education in Jordan, and journalism in Guyana to be released soon, and additional awards in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa coming this spring.
