Letters of intent are due Feb. 28 for an NIH funding opportunity for Nutrition and Prevention, Care, and Treatment of HIV/AIDS. The RFA text suggests that work in Africa is a priority.This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications from organizations that propose to examine the impact of new programs/guidance intended to fully integrate food, in terms of provision of and recommendations to improve dietary intake of HIV-infected and -affected women infants and children, and nutrition, including assessment of nutritional status and its impact on prevention, care and treatment of HIV-infected and -affected women infants and children.
This FOA is intended to stimulate and strengthen a multidisciplinary approach to a complex, under-researched area and to form a basis for future research and clinical care. Mechanism of Support. This FOA utilizes the R01 grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, RFA-HD-07-001, that solicits applications using the R03 mechanism. Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. A total of $2 million is available to support 6-8 meritorious applications.
Awards issued under this FOA are contingent upon the availability of funds and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Budget and Project Period. The total project period for an application submitted in response to this funding opportunity may not exceed five years. Direct costs are limited to $250,000 per year.
