Babcock’s newest ice cream flavor, “Mnookie Dough,” announced at community picnic

Babcock Dairy’s latest ice cream flavor is named after Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin, who is UW–Madison’s 30th leader. “Mnookie Dough” is a vanilla ice cream with chunks of cookie dough and swirls of fudge and caramel.
The flavor was unveiled during a celebratory community picnic at Library Mall following Chancellor Mnookin’s investiture ceremony on Friday, April 14. Chancellor Mnookin, along with Scott Rankin, professor and chair of the food science department, revealed the flavor and recognized Babcock Hall Dairy Plant Manager Casey Whyte, who helped make the first batch of Mnookie Dough.
Whyte said that creating custom flavors has been a way to honor important UW–Madison traditions for years, though Mnookin is just the third chancellor to have an ice cream named after her. Bec-Key Lime Pie was named for the late Chancellor Rebecca Blank in 2013 and Chancellor Biddy Martin’s flavor, Strawbiddy Swirl, was created in 2008.
“Hopefully this makes her feel at home on campus and part of the university,” Whyte says.
Mnookie Dough is the first flavor of ice cream to be made in the newly renovated Babcock Hall Dairy Plant. It is available in campus outlets, including the Babcock Dairy Store and Wisconsin Union ice cream counters, while supplies last.
