Sign up to donate or volunteer during the CALS Wellness Committee blood drive on Dec. 8
Your CALS Wellness Committee is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, December 8, 2022, in the basement of the Agricultural Engineering Building located at 460 Henry Mall. The blood drive is from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. There are still many times available to donate blood! And thanks to a Red Cross promotion, if you give blood during Nov. 28–Dec. 15 (including during our CALS Wellness Committee blood drive!) you will receive a $10 Amazon gift card through email.
Sign up for your appointment today on the Red Cross website.
You will notice there are sign-up options for blood or power red. The Red Cross explains a Power Red donation as, “A donor gives a concentrated dose of red cells, the part of the blood used every day for those needing transfusions as part of their care. This type of donation uses an automated process that separates red blood cells from the other blood components, and then safely and comfortably returns plasma and platelets to the donor.” Click here to learn more about Power Red donations.

Please see our past article about the donation process, tips before you give, and volunteer opportunities.
Few other fun facts about blood donations:
- Blood types are inherited, much like eye color.
- You don’t need to know your blood type to give blood.
- You can donate whole blood every 56 days.
- After donating, no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise the rest of the day.
If you have any questions about the blood drive, donating, or volunteering, please reach out to CALS Wellness Committee Chair Kristin Carroll at Kristin.carroll@wisc.edu. Additionally, please reach out to Kristin Carroll if you are interested in blood drive fliers for your building.
