CALS Wellness Committee tip: Garden swap boxes conveniently located across campus

It’s here. A plethora of luscious fruits and vegetables that are available at home gardens, farmer markets, CSAs and grocery stores. And nothing tastes better than produce in July. But what do you do if you have too much on hand?

It can be hard to keep up with storing or giving away your excess bounty. It can be a little depressing to throw away your hard-won produce. One thing you can do, is to look around for the free garden swap boxes that are located in departments across campus.

Drop off your excess and pick up something you don’t have in your garden. The Department of Food Science has one in Babcock Hall’s front entryway on the corner of Babcock and Linden. Bins are also hosted by Departments of Agricultural and Applied Economics, Biochemistry, Nutritional Sciences, and Soil Science. Russell Labs and CALS Human Resources also host boxes.

If you did not plant a garden and would love to enjoy the harvest, keep an eye open for the garden boxes. You are welcome to help yourself.

If you have more donations then can fit into our boxes, you can donate your fresh produce to Second Harvest.

The Neighborhood Pantry on Mills Street also takes donations. Be sure to contact them before you drop of your donations.

MOM in Middleton also accepts produce donations.
