December update from University Bicycle Resource Center

Hi gang…welcome to December.

Our final fall semester virtual bicycle mechanics class, “Bicycle Through Winter,” will be on Tuesday, December 8, 12:00–1:30 p.m. This free class will be taught by Chuck Strawser, UW Bicycle/Pedestrian coordinator. He’ll share tips on biking through the winter learned from his many years of winter bicycling and provide suggestions for clothing and other gear plus basic winter maintenance tips and available resources. Pre-registration through WebEx is required. Once you are approved by the host, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for joining the session. Register at:

In other class news, we now have a Youtube playlist for recordings of all of our past virtual classes at: We’ll be regrouping over the winter and then scheduling virtual classes for spring. As soon as those are set up we’ll let you know.

The shop itself will continue to be closed for the spring semester out of an abundance of caution due to the high number of touch points and in an effort to try to limit the spread of COVID-19. We have high hopes to hire new staff for summer 2021 and hopefully be able to reopen then for drop-in DIY bike work. However, in the meantime you can still perform DIY bicycle repairs at outdoor air and repair stations located throughout campus (see the map at ).

Hang in there everybody, have a good winter, and we’ll see you in spring semester.
