Student scholarships available to attend virtual Farmer Cooperatives Conference

The United States is home to over 2,500 farmer owned cooperatives that handle, process, and market almost every type of agricultural commodity. The majority of America’s 2 million farmers and ranchers belong to one or more farmer cooperatives.

There is great interest from the agricultural cooperative industry to educate the next generation of agricultural leaders. The UW Center for Cooperatives, the Ralph K. Morris Foundation, and the Renk Agribusiness Institute are offering scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students to attend the Virtual Farmer Cooperatives Conference. The Farmer Cooperatives Young Leaders Scholarship Program is for college students in the United States who have an interest in agribusiness and cooperatives. The scholarship enables students to learn more about different segments of the agricultural cooperative sector and enhance their preparedness to enter careers in the agriculture industry.

For the past two decades, the UW Center for Cooperatives has organized the Farmer Cooperatives Conference to bring together top agricultural cooperative leadership and industry experts from across the country to examine strategic issues impacting farmer-owned cooperatives. This year’s conference will provide attendees a chance to explore the current state of farmer cooperatives. Topics will include the 2020 election results and implications, trends emerging from COVID-19, how cooperatives are leading and adapting during these challenging times, recruiting the next generation of directors, and the latest cooperative research. See the full program here.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are moving the conference to an online platform to be held November 5-6, 2020.

The application deadline is October 23.
