CALS Wellness Committee member shares tips on how to minimize stress when returning to work
I recently participated in the monthly Wellness Community of Practice (CoP) meeting for campus. One of our discussion items was about the article, “How to Prepare Yourself for a Return to the Office,” by Ron Carucci. The article is timely as UW–Madison is in full Smart Restart mode.
We first had to transition to working from home. The transition to returning to campus will likely be harder for most. Whether it is for instruction or research many are starting to return to campus. Some are excited to return, while some are anxious about the return. Common fears are worrying about getting sick, the use of public transportation, and/or balancing work and care of children with many schools starting the year with virtual learning.
The article highlights five approaches to minimize your stress and adapt to our ongoing changes:
- Monitor your anxiety
- Stock up on patience and flexibility
- Manage expectations
- Be a source of joy
- Stay focused on the bigger story

Well wishes to all during these unique times. Stay well!
