The Wisconsin Grape Growers Association recently recognized Patricia McManus, professor emeritus of plant pathology, with their Industry Award. The award is presented to an individual who has made a major contribution in advancing the interests of the Wisconsin grape and wine industry.
McManus, who retired in 2019, focused on practical problems that affect the profitability and sustainability of growing fruit crops. Her team employed a variety of cultural, physiological, microscopic, and molecular techniques, and conducted research in the laboratory, greenhouse and field. Her extension efforts focused on educating growers and crop consultants on identifying disease problems, managing diseases in an economically and environmentally sound manner, and managing fungicide and bactericide resistance.
