Best practices for gift in kind process

A “gift in kind” donation of a tangible item, good, and/or service are items that the university would have to otherwise buy if the item, good or service hadn’t been donated. Examples are: machinery, equipment, vehicles, lab supplies and/or books.

If you receive a gift or know of a pending gift in kind, please complete the below steps:

  1. Complete the gift in kind form with required signatures:
  2. Attach correspondence between the recipient and donor indicating that there are no restrictive provisions with the terms of the item and thanking them for their generosity. View sample gift in kind acknowledgement letter.
  3. Attach documentation showing the fair market value of the item if the gift is deemed capital equipment.
  4. Route form to Casey Hillmer in 212 Ag Hall.
