The Office of the Provost invites proposals from faculty, staff, and students for the 2019 Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment grant competition; all proposals are due by November 12, 2018.
The endowment helps foster the Wisconsin Idea — the principle that the knowledge, ideas, and solutions generated at UW–Madison should benefit the people of Wisconsin, the nation, and the world. Proposals are encouraged for new outreach and public engagement activities that partner with community and off-campus organizations to extend and apply our research, education, and clinical knowledge to help solve problems or take advantage of opportunities to enhance lives.
The endowment supports seed project grants of $4,000 or less, and larger project grants of up to $120,000. For detailed application guidance, visit the Baldwin website.
If possible, please notify Michell Sass, CALS Research Division, (608) 265-9534, email@example.com ahead of the November 12 deadline of your intent to submit. We have found that it is easiest to make corrections to proposals before they are uploaded into the Office of the Provost’s online proposal system.
Proposal Submission and Approval Process Timeline:
Seed project proposals and project pre-proposals are due to the Office of the Provost by November 12, 2018. Proposals need to be submitted by the PI directly to the Office of the Provost using the online proposal submission system located on their website. WISPER records are not needed.
**Important note for students: The faculty or staff member working with a student on a proposal should be the individual who registers on the Baldwin site and submits the pre-proposal or seed grant proposal.
Once the faculty or staff PI has submitted the proposal, the designated Department Chair or Center Director will receive an email indicating that the proposal is ready for Chair/Director approval. This approval must be completed by November 19, 2018.
Once the Chair/Director has approved the proposal, the CALS Research Division will receive an email indicating that the proposal is ready for Divisional approval on behalf of the CALS Dean’s Office. This approval must be completed by December 7, 2018. Michell Sass will follow-up with the PI only if budget corrections are needed.
Please direct any questions with regard to the Baldwin grant competition or proposal submission process to Eden Inoway-Ronnie in the Office of the Provost.
