Over winter break, UW–Madison student Mason Muerhoff spotted a campus celebrity out-and-about: a young red fox.

The fox is likely part of the family of foxes that were first spotted on campus a few years ago. Shortly after, UW–Madison researchers in the Department of Forest & Wildlife Ecology started the Urban Canid Project, an outreach and citizen science venture for recording sightings of our furry friends. Though they are typically fond of forests and fields, foxes can also adapt to city life.

If you see a fox on campus, report the sighting on the Urban Canid Project website.
