Philip Harris, professor emeritus of Agricultural and Applied Economics, dies at 66

Phil Harris, an educator of agricultural law at UW–Madison for more than 35 years, died on Jan. 12, 2018. He was 66.

Born on June 20, 1951, in Atlantic, Iowa, he grew up on a family farm and graduated from Iowa State University. He received both his Masters in Economics and his law degree from the University of Chicago.

Harris was an Emeritus Professor and former chair of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Department at UW–Madison. He founded and directed Tax Insight, LLC, a company that provides education for tax practitioners.

A visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 19 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. at Luther Memorial Church, 1021 University Ave., Middleton.
