Deadline for 2018 Wisconsin Idea Seminar nominations is Jan. 31

The call for nominations for the Wisconsin Idea Seminar is open. Due to the form needing Dean’s Office approval, CALS is asking that in addition to the completed form, nominations also include a short paragraph that describes how the experience will benefit the nominee. The Dean’s Office also will need time to review the nominations, so all materials are due to Therese McHenry in the CALS Dean’s Office by Jan. 31, 2018. Upon Dean’s Office approval, Therese will forward completed applications to the Provost’s Office by the seminar program’s Feb. 15, 2018 deadline.

The Wisconsin Idea Seminar is a 5-day immersive tour of Wisconsin for UW–Madison faculty and academic staff to engage with Wisconsinites, build relationships, and learn about the educational, industrial, social, and political realities of Wisconsin.

Participants become students of Wisconsin life to learn about the state they serve. They return to campus both inspired by a renewed commitment to the Wisconsin Idea and more knowledgeable about the spaces and places from which many of our students originate.

The 2018 Wisconsin Idea Seminar’s theme is “Big Lake” and the tour will include experiences at Lake Superior and its surrounding watershed, in addition to other stops along the way.

The Seminar is designed for UW-Madison faculty and academic staff, with an emphasis on faculty and staff who are new to Wisconsin or new to their role on campus. Individuals may nominate themselves with support from their department chairs or divisional directors.

For more information, read the call for nominations or visit the seminar’s website.
