The Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE) is a two-week “boot camp” held Aug. 3-17, 2017, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for future decision makers eager to join the sustainability and energy revolution happening around the globe. During weekdays, SISE’ers participate in high-level talks, visit energy and sustainability sites, and network. During evenings and weekends, they work collaboratively on a research project and enjoy exploring Chicago.
In 2017, SISE will focus on transportation, specifically the concept of mobility and the future of transportation systems. The program will engage experts and diverse ideas, covering several trends:
- Technological advances – The changes leading us to Autonomous Electric Vehicles
- Emerging mobility trends – Ridesharing/micro-transit and other mobility solutions
- Infrastructure challenges – The power grid and its interaction with electric vehicles
- Global and local impacts – The overarching picture
There is no program fee, and lodging is provided for all participants. Applications are accepted through June 15, 2017. The application process includes an online application, a resume/CV, one letter of recommendation, and a short Skype/Google Hangout interview.
