UW Showcase offers encore presentations this fall

Sometimes, once is not enough.

The UW Office of Quality Improvement often receives comments from UW Showcase attendees after the event, wishing they had had more time to look at posters, talk to presenters, or attend break-out sessions. This fall, there will be four opportunities to revisit Showcase presentations from the past two years on four consecutive Mondays from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. in Union South.

Beverages and cookies will be provided; feel free to bring your own brown bag lunch or buy one on your way into Union South. To register for one or all of them, follow this link: http://bit.ly/Showcase2015Brownbag.

Monday, October 26: What? Me? Merge? Seriously?! Changing Structures to Boost Collaboration
Reprising a popular 2015 Showcase break-out session, faculty and staff from Cell & Regenerative Biology, Forest & Wildlife Ecology, and Russell Labs will tell their stories about how thoughtful collaboration has resulted in administrative efficiencies, improved services, and the advancement of academic research.

The following three sessions, described below, are all based on posters from the 2014 and 2015 Showcases. During the first half hour, presenters will spend about five minutes each walking the audience through their projects and describing any subsequent developments. They will then be stationed around the room with their posters so audience members can approach them for further information or one-on-one consultations.

Monday, November 2: Progressing from Paper to Pixels
There are still many opportunities on campus to automate paper-based processes. In this session, colleagues from Social Work, Continuing Studies, Engineering Professional Development, and UW Housing will describe the benefits they’ve realized, and share the lessons they’ve learned, as they applied automation to an old manual process.

Monday, November 9: Technology Tools You Can Tap Into
The Division of Information Technology (DOIT) has been an active Showcase participant from the beginning and their posters are always popular. Members of DoIT will present five-minute “flash talks” on tools they support that are widely available on campus, and give examples of how they are being used. After the flash talks, the presenters will be available for consultations about opportunities you may have to take advantage of these tools, including WiscList, MyUW, Campus Software Library, Lynda.com and others.

Monday, November 16: Purposeful Partnering for Powerful Projects
On a big campus, it’s a challenge to find and collaborate with the right partner for an important project. You will hear stories of what worked (and, perhaps, what didn’t work) for campus collaborators from Student Life, CALS, WISCIENCE, International Academic Programs, University Health Services, Graduate School, Office of Sustainability and Veterinary Medicine.
