CALS’ 125th: Reflecting on a year of celebrations

We had a great time celebrating the college’s 125th anniversary in 2014. In addition to the five college-wide special events that were held, several departments and units also held anniversary celebrations.

There was a lot of buzz in the media about the anniversary. The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board made a video for the Wisconsin Dairy Network, Dean Kate VandenBosch wrote a couple of op-ed pieces like this one that was in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in December, and several publications around the state covered CALS activities such as “Supper club science? UW to explore” in the Green Bay Press Gazette.    Happy Cranniversary

Perhaps the most talked about (and most served) part of the anniversary celebration was Happy Cranniversary ice cream made by the Babcock Hall Dairy Plant. Early in the year, we asked for submissions of a clever name for our anniversary ice cream. From 434 great ideas, Happy Cranniversary was selected and developed last spring. After perfecting the recipe, Babcock produced 450 gallons – approximately 8,000 servings – over the course of the year.

Thanks to everyone who helped make 2014 special. Check out this video slide show, recapping many of our favorite moments from the year.
