At its upcoming centennial celebration on Aug. 30, the Department of Bacteriology will be designated a Milestones in Microbiology site by the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) during a plaque dedication event.
The ASM Milestones in Microbiology program recognizes institutions that have made significant contributions toward advancing the science of microbiology. The bacteriology department’s designation is made in recognition of its consistent history of outstanding cutting-edge research over the past 100 years, and the continuing benefits to fundamental and applied sciences, to industry, to government and to society as a whole from the research performed in the department.
Information about the department’s Milestones in Microbiology designation and key research contributions are available on the ASM website. The text that will appear on the plaque is printed on page four of the department’s Summer 2014 alumni newsletter.
