WALSAA elects new directors, raises $28,000 at Football Fire-Up
The 38thh annual Wisconsin Ag and Life Sciences Alumni Association Football Fire-Up, in conjunction with the Dean’s Annual Tailgate, raised more than $28,000 and brought together almost 400 alumni, faculty, students and special guests attending the Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences Alumni Association’s marquee event at the UW Foundation on September 7.
Through the generous contributions of more than 50 donors and countless bidders, the Fire-Up Silent Auction – in combination with a $10,000 matching contribution from the UW Foundation – raised $20,000 in scholarship funds for UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) students. A special 50/50 Raffle collected more than $700 to be used for Innovation Grants for CALS student organizations.
Fire-Up attendees took part in a Wisconsin-style steak and brat cook-out and enjoyed special entertainment from Bucky Badger, the UW Marching Band and the Soggy Prairie Boys band. They spent the afternoon celebrating the College, UW Football and each other.
WALSAA would like to recognize its major 2013 Fire-Up Sponsors: Agrigold, Badgerland Financial, Foremost Farms and Partners in Production for their important role in creating this successful event.
WALSAA also held its annual meeting at the event. Three alumni were elected to the organization’s board of directors. They were Kim Jones, Darlington; Bob Behnke, Brooklyn; and Robb Bender, Madison. Retiring board members, Marjorie Stieve, Fitchburg; Karen Lee, Edgerton; and Jenny Dierickx, Lake Mille; were also honored for their service to WALSAA.
