Rules for the CALS Photo Alphabet Project contest
UW-Madison students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of the university can submit photos for their chance to win prizes.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO PLAY OR WIN A PRIZE. All UW-Madison students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of the university are welcome to participate, with the exception of UW-Madison students, staff and faculty working in CALS Administration or others whose employment is not incidental to the basis for the prize.
The contest runs August 5 – 29. Participants will submit photos to the CALS Photo Alphabet Project for a chance to win a coupon for a free scoop of Babcock Hall ice cream. Submissions can be made through the email@example.com email account, the CALS Facebook Page or the CALS Twitter account.
A total of 12 coupons will be given away during the contest period. Three coupons will be awarded on each of the following dates: August 8, 15, 22 and 29.
CALS Office of External Relations staff will select winning submissions each week giving special preference to:
- Photos of hard-to-find letters including B, F, G, L, R, S, U and Z.
- Clear, well-composed photos with a high degree of contrast between the letter and the background.
- Photos that have a clear “CALS connection” of some kind.

HOW TO CLAIM PRIZES
Winners will be selected by CALS Office of External Relations staff, as described above. Winners will be notified by email, Facebook or Twitter within 24 hours of the dates when contest winners are announced: August 8, 15, 22 and 29. If a prize winner cannot be located within 5 days, an alternative winner will be chosen.
The CALS Photo Alphabet Project contest is open to UW-Madison students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of the university, with the exception of UW-Madison students, staff and faculty working in CALS Administration. No University of Wisconsin employee will receive a prize except where the employment is incidental to the basis for the prize. Winners subject to proving eligibility. Void where prohibited.
By participating in this contest, participants agree to abide by and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges. All submissions are subject to verification at the sole discretion of the sponsors. Prizes may not be transferred or assigned prior to award of prize and no substitutions are allowed. Cash will not be rewarded in lieu of stated prize. Winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state or local taxes.
Participation in the CALS Photo Alphabet Project contest constitutes permission to use participant’s submitted photo(s), name and address (city/state) in advertising, promotion and public relations efforts, and the participant grants UW-Madison all rights to said use, without additional compensation. Participants agree that the University of Wisconsin and their advertising, promotions, distribution, and judging agencies, affiliates and employees shall have no liability in connection with acceptance, operation, or use of the prizes awarded. The contest is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
