The Academic Staff Professional Development Grant Program, authorized by the Board of Regents, sponsored and administered by UW-Madison, is being offered for all UW-Madison academic staff members who hold at least a 50 percent appointment. The grants are for professional development activities that will occur between July 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. Information on the grant program will be announced in Inside Wisconsin and can be obtained from the website:
These grants are intended for professional development and/or training to improve the effectiveness of academic staff members in their current roles. The funds are not intended for basic job training or for job requirements. To be eligible for this award, staff must not have been awarded this funding in the previous two rounds of competition (for activities that occurred in the Fall of 2012 or Spring of 2013). Please encourage your staff to consult either Inside Wisconsin, or the website listed above for the information on the Academic Staff Professional Development Grant Program.
Potential applicants as well as Deans, Directors or their designees are encouraged to attend one of two informational Brown Bags to be held:
Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Noon in Bascom Hall Conference Room #67
Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Noon in Bascom Hall Conference Room #67
Please note that this is the first round of professional development grants in which electronic submission procedures will be implemented using the same system used for faculty development grants. Please refer to the Academic Staff website for more instructions on submitting an application. The following deadlines apply:
- Applicant completes application, obtains supervisor signature on the proposal cover page, uploads application to http://apps.ohr.wisc.edu/staffdev/Default.aspx, and submits electronically to the School/College Dean or equivalent by April 12, 2013

- School/College Dean or equivalent ranking of applications emailed to the

Units are expected to match the Professional Development Grant funds awarded by the committee. If budget constraints prevent departments from contributing their share of the funding, please let affected staff know before they begin working on a grant application.
If you or your colleagues have any questions about the process, please contact Mary Johansen in the Office of the Secretary of the Academic Staff at 263-2985 or Jo Ann Carr, Interim Secretary of the Academic Staff at 263-1011 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
