You’re invited to participate in our 11th UW-Madison Science Expeditions 2013. This year we are expanding the event to a three-day campus-wide open house, April 5, 6, and 7. Science Expeditions is an annual event that welcomes the community to campus and promotes the understanding and appreciation of science and how science works among the public. It also helps students at all levels develop important communication skills and scientist to showcase their research to the public. It’s a great opportunity to convey the wonders of science and advance the Wisconsin Idea.
This campus-wide open house event features Science Spectaculars, Exploration Destinations, and Exploration Stations. Science Spectaculars include events such as Wonders of Physics shows, SPICE demonstration shows, Astrophotography from your backyard and Dinosauria. Exploration Destinations include open houses and tours of campus facilities.
Science Expeditions features Exploration Stations. These are interactive exhibits (mostly table-top) that provide hands-on activities for kids and families that invite visitors to experience science as exploring the unknown, develop their science knowledge, and learn about the fascinating research happening every day at the University of Wisconsin. They are hosted by many members of the campus scientific community, including students, faculty, and staff.
This year we will have two days of Exploration Stations. The first day will happen at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery (330 N. Orchard St.), on April 6th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the second day will occur at the Health Sciences Learning Center (750 Highland Ave.), on April 7th, also from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Participants can request up to $200 to develop and present quality display materials for their Exploration Station (note that we will find the first 60 stations that request funding).
Please contact Cheryl Redman at: firstname.lastname@example.org to start the process to receive funds for your participation.
Science Expeditions is hosted by the Science Alliance, a group of science outreach activists from around campus.
