Owen Fennema, Professor Emeritus of Food Science, passed away on Weds. Aug. 1 at the age of 83. He joined the CALS faculty in 1960 and retired in 1996. During that time he served as department chair (1977–1981) and in many other leadership posts both on campus and in the food science field, authored a widely used food chemistry textbook and earned many honors for his accomplishments. There’s a very nice remembrance here, written by long-time colleague Daryl Lund.
He was also an accomplished stained glass artist, and some of his work can be seen on campus. Among them is a piece created to commemorate the centennial of Ag Hall, which hangs in the Dean’s offices, 146 Ag Hall.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1609 University Ave. in Madison on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at 4:00 p.m.This entry was posted in Milestones by . Bookmark the permalink.
