UW-Madison now has its own URL shortening utility. Called goUW, the service enables users to abbreviate Web addresses that are often long and cumbersome. This can be especially helpful when sharing Web links in printed materials, in text and email messages where line breaks are imposed on lengthy URLs, and in social media posts on Twitter and other tools.
goUW is a campus-based, UW-branded alternative to such URL shorteners as bit.ly and tinyURL. It was built and is maintained by staff in the Computer-Aided Engineering Center in the College of Engineering.
To get started with goUW, go to go.wisc.edu and log in with your UW NetID. Enter the URL you want to abbreviate in the Destination URL box. Click “Add it!” to create a UW-branded short URL.
