NAS seeks candidates for Keck Futures Initiative Conference

The National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI), a project of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine, with generous support from the W.M. Keck Foundation, is seeking candidates to apply for this year’s conference on Ecosystem Services.

NAKFI conferences bring together some of the nation’s best and brightest researchers from academic, industrial, and government laboratories to explore and discover interdisciplinary connections in important areas of cutting-edge research.  Maybe you’re interested in applying, or know somebody who would like to become part of what many have called a “spectacular and intellectually-stimulating” experience.

This year’s conference will be held November 11-13, 2011 at the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center in Irvine, California, beginning with a welcome reception the evening of November 10.  Additional information about the conference, including the online application, is available at:

The NAKFI Steering Committee on Ecosystem Services will review all applications and select approximately 100 attendees.  Following the conference, nearly $1 million in seed grant monies will be available to participants on a competitive basis in the amounts of $25,000, $50,000, $75,000 and $100,000.  The National Academies Keck Futures Initiative will pay for all expenses related to participants’ travel to and from the conference, and meals and lodging during the conference.
