In May 2009 the Academic Staff Assembly passed a resolution to encourage academic staff to volunteer during their furlough days. This resolution is supported by other non-academic staff members, and as a result a planning committee has since been formed consisting of members from academic staff and classified staff with assistance from United Way.
This committee has selected the last mandated furlough day for this academic year, May 21, for a service day naming the effort “Compassion for Your Community.” This effort offers an easy way for staff at UW-Madison to volunteer.
Join your co-workers and friends for a UW-Madison Furlough Service Day and spend part of your day off giving back to your community. Arrange your own volunteer opportunity or take advantage of volunteer activities that will be made available in Madison and surrounding areas to the UW community on Friday, May 21, 2010. Various projects and shift times (generally 3 hour segments) will be available.
