Lectures Committee funds are a great way to support international speakers

As you think about potential speakers to bring to campus, consider experts who can address issues on a global scale. Providing our students with international perspectives will better prepare them to be leaders in an ever expanding global economy.

The Lectures Committee is soliciting applications from departments, academic programs and registered student organizations for support of public lectures to be held during the 2009-2010 academic year. As stated in Faculty Policies and Procedures, the function of the committee is to consider “requests for lectures of general interest that are not primarily supplementary to or extensions of programs of instruction provided by colleges, schools or departments.”

Potential applicants should read the document “Policies and Guidelines for Requesting Lectures Committee Support” on the Lectures Committee website. To be considered by the committee, applications must conform to specifications in this document. In particular, the lecture date, time and location must be consistent with the committee’s policies, even if the proposed lecture is part of a larger conference.

NOTE: There is now a new fillable/savable pdf Lectures Committee application form available on our website. It replaces the previous Lectures Committee application form. The application process has become electronic, so all application material should now be submitted via email to Joni Brown at by the deadline dates below for each month.

Please submit pdf’s of all required documents (letters of support, cv’s, airfare quotes etc.), along with the pdf application in one email. Instructions on how to fill out the application and what documentation is required are listed on the application form itself. Be sure to use the correct naming conventions for the pdf file attachments when submitting applications. That information is listed in the “Application Assembly” section on the last page of the application. Please remember that airfare estimates are still required to be submitted along with the application to be considered for funding. Any application material received after 4:30 p.m. on the deadline dates below for each month will be processed on the next month’s application period. The committee reviews new requests once each month. Applications are due by the 15th day of the month. Refer to the schedule below to determine the time period for submitting a new request:

Applications will be accepted as long as funds are available. We encourage you to share this memorandum with your colleagues, especially those likely to initiate requests for university-wide lectures.
