New I-9 form and requirements effective Friday, April 3

Barring another last-minute deferral from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the new Form I-9 and documentary requirements will go into effect on Friday, April 3, 2009. Please see the International Faculty and Staff Services (IFSS) web site for details about the changes and the link to the Form I-9 on the USCIS web site: http://www.ohr.wisc.edu/ifss/i-9/I-9.html. In addition, you should start using the February 2009 version of the UW-Madison I-9 Reference Manual, at the same site, for detailed information on the I-9 process and documentary requirements.

IFSS is in the process of updating their I-9 workshop materials to reflect the changes and will schedule a workshop before the end of the spring semester. The date will be posted on the IFSS web site once the workshop is scheduled. The workshop is geared toward individuals who are new to the process. Those who are experienced in processing I-9s should not need to attend; the information on the IFSS web site should be sufficient. However, if you have any questions, please contact either Deborah Ahlstedt at dahlstedt@ohr.wisc.edu or Jennie Taylor at jtaylor@ohr.wisc.edu.
