Consider hosting an exploration station for April 4 Science Expeditions

Student organizations and departments are invited to participate in Science Expeditions 2009 on Saturday, April 4. Science Expeditions is an annual event that welcomes the community to campus and promotes an appreciation of science. It also helps students develop important communication skills. It’s a great opportunity to convey the wonders of science and advance the Wisconsin Idea. Space for Exploration Stations is limited, so make your plans accordingly.

Science Expeditions includes approximately 40 Exploration Stations. These are exhibits (mostly table-top) that provide hands-on activities for kids and families to engage them in the fascinating research happening every day at the University of Wisconsin. They are hosted by many members of the campus scientific community, including students, faculty, and staff. Participants can request up to $200 to organize and present an exploration station.

Science Expeditions is hosted by the Science Alliance, a group of science outreach folks from around campus. This year’s event will be held 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., April 4, 2009 in the Microbial Science Building, the Stock Pavilion, the Biochemistry Addition, and other venues.

Science Expeditions also includes four Science Spectaculars: Science is Fun, Wonders of Physics, MicroSafari and Science in a Box. These events are scheduled throughout the day. They are crowd-pleasing demonstrations of science.
