New I-9 implementation delayed
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it is delaying implementation of the new I-9 form and documentary requirements until April 3. The new form and requirements were due to go into effect Feb. 2 (see the Jan. 22 eCALS announcement New Form I-9 and documentary requirements.)
Until further notice, the June 5 edition of the I-9 form and list of acceptable documents should be used. The postponement of the I-9 rule and form is part of the federal government’s review of Bush administration regulations that had not yet gone into effect on Inauguration Day. Updates will be posted on the web site of International Faculty and Staff Services, and a notice will be sent out once more information is available.
