LSC lecture: Personal Story Telling in a Media Age – Oct. 28

The Department of Life Sciences Communication welcomes Kara Briggs to campus, October 28, 2008. As part of the Life Sciences Communication Centennial Speaker Series, Briggs will present, “Personal Story Telling in a Media Age,” at 12:00 p.m. in the Ebling Symposium Center on the first floor of the Microbial Sciences Building on October 28. As the news covered by media becomes increasingly narrow, Native American Journalist Kara Briggs advocates reporting stories close to you, the original ones no one else can tell, even when that means finding the money and means to publish it yourself. Briggs, who is Yakama and Snohomish, once worked for the Wausau Daily Herald, and is now working with the Smithsonian Institution to develop a prototype news service serving tribal news media.
