Four CALS academic departments have new leadership this month.
- Susan Nitzke has been chosen to replace Roger Sunde as Chair of Nutritional Sciences. In addition to her title as Professor, Nitzke is a registered dietician and works in extension and research to develop and evaluate techniques for nutrition education. Through UW-Extension’s Family Living Programs, she provides education promoting family strengths and positive environments for family life. (This appointment is contingent upon University Committee consideration, which is expected to occur next week.)
- Daniel Kleinman will become Chair of Rural Sociology, effective July 1. He replaces Leann Tigges, who is beginning her role as CALS Director of Faculty Development. Kleinman is also Chair of the Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies in the College of Letters and Science. He has been a UW-Madison faculty member since 2000. He has published six books on science and technology subjects, ranging from academic science to federal research policy.

He teaches introductory turfgrass management, turf pest management, and advanced turf management and physiology and is active in Extension programming in Integrated Pest Management.
