Deadlines requiring internal UW competition:

Sponsors may limit the number of applications that an institution may submit for a particular grant program. The Graduate School will coordinate these submissions for research opportunities by determining whether multiple candidates wish to apply and organizing an impartial review to select the most competitive proposal(s) to orward to the funding agency. The following announcements have recently been posted:

NIH NCRR Shared Instrumentation Grant Program (S10)

Deadlines: Send notice of intent to apply with description of the instrument to the Graduate School by Wednesday, February 13, 2008; Applications are due at NIH Monday, March 24, 2008

The NIH program announcement for this year’s NIH NCRR Shared Instrumentation Grant Program is available at the following web site:

This program is intended to make available to institutions, specifically to NIH-supported investigators, research instruments costing more than $100,000 that can only be justified on a shared-use basis. The maximum award is $500,000. Multiple applications for similar instruments from the UW-Madison require official administrative assurance that such requests are a coordinated institutional effort and not unintended duplication. For this reason, a Graduate School review of the equipment requested is required. This is not an internal competition.

Please advise us by Wednesday, February 13, 2008 if you intend to submit an application. Provide 1) a description of the instrument, 2) a statement of intended use, and 3) a list of the potential users. Send this information in an email message (not an attachment) to gsgrants@bascom.wisc.edu with “NIH NCRR” in the subject line of your email message.

The NIH deadline for submission of the final proposal is Monday, March 24, 2008. Applications must be submitted electronically.
