Daughters of Demeter will plant heirloom tulip bulbs in Allen gardens
The Daughters of Demeter, an organization of women who share an interest in agriculture, founded in 1917 and who provide scholarships to CALS students, will plant bulbs in Allen Centennial Gardens on Thursday, October 18. One of the organizations service projects is to plant about 1500 bulbs in the gardens. This group, made up mostly of faculty wives, is named after Demeter the Green goddess of agriculture and fertility. This year the organization located an heirloom 1932 tulip bulb named Demeter. They will be planting this bulb along with many others.
Other service projects of the organization include making turbans and scarves for cancer patients at the University Hospital and volunteering at bloodmobiles.
