On Jan. 24 Dean Jahn unveiled the new Wisconsin Bioenergy Initative and outlined how the College is taking the lead in the Wisconsin bioenergy research, an effort focused on bringing a new federal bioenergy research and development center to Madison. She also introduced the new WBI, go to www.wisconsinbioenergy.com. She made the announcements at a CALS-sponsored reception at the MG&E Innovation Center at University Research Park that was attended leaders of Wisconsin bioscience firms. The event was well-covered by local media. Of course, the reporters had a good news hook: A couple of hours after the announcement, President Bush made his call (in his State of the Union Message) for decreasing dependence on foreign oil.
