CALS takes leadership of new Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative

On Jan. 24 Dean Jahn unveiled the new Wisconsin Bioenergy Initative and outlined how the College is taking the lead in the Wisconsin bioenergy research, an effort focused on bringing a new federal bioenergy research and development center to Madison. She also introduced the new WBI, go to She made the announcements at a CALS-sponsored reception at the MG&E Innovation Center at University Research Park that was attended leaders of Wisconsin bioscience firms. The event was well-covered by local media. Of course, the reporters had a good news hook: A couple of hours after the announcement, President Bush made his call (in his State of the Union Message) for decreasing dependence on foreign oil.
