Goldwater scholarships offer $7,500 to research-minded undergrads

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships provide $7,500/yr for up to two years to undergraduate students who plan to earn a Ph.D. and pursue a research career in mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering. Students who plan to get an MD/Ph.D. are eligible, but not those who plan to pursue an MD alone. To compete nationally, applicants must be nominated by UW-Madison. You can download the campus application on the Undergraduate Academic Awards website. Campus application deadline: November 17, 2006.

Applicants should be juniors or sophomores (1 or 2 additional years of undergraduate study after the 2006-07 academic year). Successful candidates have a strong academic record (3.75 GPA or above) and previous research experience. In recent years eight UW-Madison students have won Goldwater Scholarships.
