The college’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has undergone significant growth since it was founded in Jan. 2022. The ODEI team – which now includes four employees – has been actively working to get to know the college, assess and address DEI needs, and is now preparing to launch some major resources and initiatives. Expect to hear a lot more from the ODEI team in the coming weeks and months, as they share various updates and announcements.

In the meantime, meet the whole team:

Louis Macias
Associate Dean, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
As the college’s chief diversity officer and ODEI director, Macias leads the office’s efforts to make the CALS climate the best it can be for all students, faculty and staff, and to provide an excellent learning and work environment for all. Before joining CALS, Macias served as the inaugural executive director of recruitment, diversity and inclusion for the UW–Madison Police Department, where he led the creation and development of the UWPD Equity Dashboard.

Tom Browne
Senior Assistant Dean, Climate and Engagement
Browne joined the ODEI team in June 2023 to expand the ability of the office to provide consulting services to CALS personnel seeking guidance on climate issues. Previously, Browne was an assistant dean in the CALS Office of Academic Affairs and the college’s campus diversity representative, facilitating recruitment and retention initiatives for CALS. He’s been with CALS since 2006.

Rosalia (Rosie) Gittens
Community Development Manager
Gittens is focused on learning and development, responsible for the creation, delivery and ongoing refinement of DEI programming to meet the needs and overcome challenges throughout CALS. This involves curating resources and offering workshops and other learning opportunities that can expand knowledge and build community. Prior to joining CALS in June 2022, Gittens worked in the K-12 educational system as a bilingual teacher and community school coordinator.

Mandi Moy
Community Impact Manager
Moy, who joined ODEI in January 2023, oversees the office’s equity assessments, data reports and communications strategy, all with the goal of supporting DEI decisions and efforts within CALS. Before joining the college, she served as the director of admissions and recruitment at the UW–Madison School of Nursing, where she redesigned and implemented new holistic admissions processes for undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs.
