Employee summary evaluations due by Mar. 31

Per the normative CALS performance management cycle, summary evaluations — which evaluate employee performance from January 1 through December 31 each calendar year — are completed in the first quarter following the evaluation period. 2022 Summary (annual) evaluations should be completed by March 31, 2023. Looking ahead: 2023 Mid-point Conversations will be completed by September 30, 2023.

Both a job aid and a webinar are available to assist supervisors and their employees in documenting summary evaluations within the Performance Management Development Program (PMDP). For those who supervise employees in remote or hybrid work situations, the following resources from the Office of Human Resources (OHR) are available:

Conducting performance evaluations is important as the University of Wisconsin–Madison is committed to supporting employees meet their career and professional goals, as well as supporting the university’s need to maintain a high-performing workforce. Effective performance management strategies aid in the following:

  • Positioning the university to provide employees with developmental opportunities
  • Better recognizing performance that exceeds expectations
  • Supporting employees who need to improve performance

These activities are also required per UW–Madison’s Performance Management for Managers and Supervisors Policy and must be completed to be eligible for performance-based and Pay Plan salary adjustments.
