Tom Rutherford receives honorary doctorate from University of Basel

Tom Rutherford, professor of agricultural and applied economics, received an honorary doctorate in business and economics from the University of Basel in Switzerland on Friday, Nov. 25. He was recognized for his contributions in the areas of international trade, energy markets and environmental economics. Rutherford has developed numerous equilibrium models and applied them to many current and complex issues. His current work at UW explores the economics of climate change policy, including carbon tariffs, as well as the impacts of international trade agreements.

Rutherford was one of eight honored with honorary doctorates at University of Basel’s 562nd Dies Academicus. Read more about the ceremony and honorees.
