Abstract: The relationship between rumen microbiota and feed efficiency in cattle is not well understood, and this relationship can be affected by several factors, including the environment, the diet, and the breed of the host. All studies that relate rumen microbiome and feed efficiency are focused on breeds that originated in temperate areas, making this the first study to explore a breed adapted to tropical conditions. We explored the 16S and 18S rRNA amplicon sequencing to understand the relationship between taxonomic rumen microbiome composition (bacteria, archaea, and protozoa) and their predicted metabolic pathways on the feed efficiency in F1 Holstein x Gyr crossbred heifers.
