Climate message from Kate VandenBosch and Carol Hillmer

The following is a message from CALS Dean Kate VandenBosch and CALS Associate Dean for Human Relations Carol Hillmer:
Greetings-
Given the national conversation about gender discrimination and sexual harassment, as well as the recent article and follow-up article in the Wisconsin State Journal, we’d like to take a moment to reiterate that the CALS leadership team takes the issue of sexual harassment very seriously.
At CALS, we strive to have a welcoming and supportive environment, where everybody feels safe and valued to do their best work. We take complaints of sexual harassment seriously, as part of our broader effort to make sure the CALS climate is the best it can be, with an excellent learning and work environment for all students, faculty and staff.
UW-Madison recently shared information about university-wide efforts to make improvements in this area, as well as campus resources available to individuals who have experienced sexual harassment. We’d like to point out those key campus resources. They include:
- Title IX Coordinator: The university’s Title IX Coordinator can share information about campus resources, including accommodations, protective measures, and how to file a complaint.
- Dean of Students Office: This office offers assistance and support to students with a variety of concerns, including sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking.
- University Health Services and Employee Assistance Office: These offices can offer confidential support.
If you’d rather start by talking with someone within the college, please feel free to reach out to Carol Hillmer at (608) 265-5495 or carol.hillmer@wisc.edu or any of the college’s dean/associate deans.
Sincerely,
Kate VandenBosch, Dean
Carol Hillmer, Associate Dean for Human Resources
