Want to participate in shared governance? Complete the Committee Interest Survey
The following message is an email sent on behalf of the Academic Staff Nominating Committee
Colleagues,
We invite your interest and participation in UW–Madison’s academic staff governance!
To express your interest in serving on an academic staff committee, please complete the Committee Interest Survey at: https://committeetracker.wisc.edu/ (login with NetID credentials required).
The survey provides a comprehensive list of committees with links to information including committee charges and current committee membership. Even if you have filled out the survey before, please review and/or update your interests annually and resubmit the survey. As a reminder, indicating your interest via the survey is not binding and it is a vital tool for our committee as we fill open committee seats (see the Appointment Process section below).
Serving in a shared governance role will:
- Build and Shape Our Community: Help make significant decisions about the university operations through over 40 distinct committees with a wide variety of interests. Have a voice in shaping committee decisions around communications, compensation, awards, diversity, student affairs, transportation, athletics, information technology, and many more.
- Create Opportunities for Professional Growth and Networking: Strengthen your communication, collaboration, and leadership skills while also meeting and working with staff from units across campus. These invaluable experiences can be translated into career opportunities or enhance your ways of working with colleagues.
If you would like to learn more, we will host a virtual informational session about shared governance in December. Details about the session will be shared in the next couple of weeks.
Appointment Process
When a committee seat opens or is up for election, the Nominating Committee reviews Committee Interest Survey responses to identify potential committee assignments or appointments. Every effort is made to ensure that committees are comprised of broad membership. Please note that not every committee has openings every year.
Elections for standing committees of the Academic Staff Assembly take place each spring. Appointments to other shared governance committees also occur in the spring. Mid-term vacancies are filled throughout the year based on Committee Interest Survey responses. If you have any questions, please contact Lesley Fisher (lesley.fisher@wisc.edu) or Mallory Musolf (soas@soas.wisc.edu).
Thank you for your interest in shared governance at UW–Madison!
