The UW–Madison campus website service, WiscWeb, is transitioning themes from UW Theme Classic to UW Theme 2.0. This is a separate migration from the changes to the CALS web hosting service shared last week and involves websites on the WiscWeb, not on CALS Web Service.

The CALS web service team has a page on their site to help you determine if your website is on CALS Web Services or WiscWeb.

For sites on WiscWeb, they must either migrate to UW Theme 2.0 or rebuild them from scratch by December 31, 2026. Any sites that have not been transitioned by the end of the calendar year will be archived in early 2027, and access will be cut off.

Impacted sites are listed under the “UW Theme Classic” heading within the WiscWeb sites list KB doc.

What this means: 

• By December 31, 2026, owners/editors of impacted sites must either migrate their website(s) to UW Theme 2.0 or rebuild them from scratch. 
• The WiscWeb team has built a migration tool to make migration easier but the process requires steps from you. Watch the migration training video for more help.
• Once you’re ready, request a migration using the Request a New WiscWeb Site form.
• The editing experience in the new theme is different from the old theme. Therefore, WiscWeb recommends that site owners and editors review the training playlist and play around with the new theme in the UW Theme 2.0 Playground to get familiar with the changes.
• If you need help or have questions, submit a support request to the WiscWeb team or schedule office hours to meet with a team member one-on-one.
