The Dairy Innovation Hub will hold its annual Dairy Symposium on May 12 at the Memorial Union. Hub events are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.

This event is formatted for an academic audience and highlights the Dairy Innovation Hub’s most cutting‑edge research from all participating campuses. It welcomes both academic audiences and anyone interested in a deeper look at scientific discovery. The program includes inspiring plenary sessions, research talks across the Hub’s four priority areas, rapid‑fire student flash talks and posters from Hub‑funded researchers. This is an in‑person event at Memorial Union, and recordings will be posted afterward on the Hub’s YouTube channel.

May 12, Memorial Union

  • 8:00 a.m. – Registration, posters, continental breakfast
  • 8:45 a.m. – Welcome and morning plenary session
    • Kyle Cranmer, professor and director of the Data Science Institute at UW– Madison, will offer insight into the impact of data science on the dairy industry, agriculture and society.
  • 10:00 a.m. – Breakout sessions and posters
  • 12:00 p.m. – Lunch and posters
  • 1:00 p.m. – Breakout sessions and posters
  • 3:00 p.m. – Afternoon panel session
    • “Forward Agriculture,” a statewide coalition led by WiSys, will provide a background overview followed by a panel discussion on bringing farmers, industry professionals, university scientists, government entities, investors and other stakeholders together to shape Wisconsin’s agriculture‑tech research and development agenda.
  • 4:00 p.m. – Flash talks, posters and cocktail reception
  • 5:30 p.m. – Adjourn

To date, this unique initiative has more than 270 funded research and outreach projects across three campuses and four priority areas.

The Dairy Innovation Hub, funded through a $7.8 million per year investment by the state of Wisconsin, harnesses research and development across the UW–MadisonUW–Platteville and UW–River Falls campuses ensuring that Wisconsin’s $52.8 billion dairy community remains a global pacesetter in producing nutritious dairy products.
